Command Sergeant Major Robert A. Bennett, Jr. assumed responsibility as the Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army Reserve Aviation Command, Fort Knox, KY on November 1st, 2024. A native of Vermilion, OH, Command Sergeant Major Bennett entered the active Army in March, 1990. He attended basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and advanced individual training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. In 1999, after nearly 10 years of active duty, CSM Bennett joined the Army Reserve.
As a Combat Medic, 68W-Health Care Specialist, he pursued training as a 68P (M5) - Radiology Specialist, Nuclear Medicine Technologist at the Naval School of Health Science, Bethesda, Maryland. Throughout his career, Command Sergeant Major Bennett held every key Noncommissioned Officer leadership position which included Squad Leader, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant and culminating as Command Sergeant Major.
CSM Bennett’s assignments include 6/37th Field Artillery, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Essayons, Korea; Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington D.C.; Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, GA; Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft. Lewis, WA; 6250th U.S. Army Hospital, Ft Lewis, Washington; 7229 IMSU, Ft. Lewis, WA; 914th Combat Support Hospital reorganizing to the 256th Combat Support Hospital, Blacklick, OH. He participated in Operation Bright Star in 2005. He was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08 with the 399th Combat Support Hospital, Taunton, MA. He also served as the Operations Sergeant Major, 307th Medical Brigade prior to his appointment to Command Sergeant Major, 3rd Battalion, 411th Regiment (Logistic Support), Camp Atterbury, Indiana on November 11, 2010. He served as the Command Sergeant Major for the 307th Medical Brigade, Blacklick, Ohio, and the 804th Medical Brigade, Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. He deployed again as the Command Sergeant Major with the 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) Operational Command Post (OCP) in support of Operation Spartan Shield in 2019-2020. He also served as the G4 SGM at AR-MEDCOM prior to most recently as the Command Sergeant Major, 244th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade (ECAB), Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
CSM Bennett’s military education and training includes all requisite Noncommissioned Officer Education System Courses, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeants Course, Battalion/Brigade Pre-Command Course and in 2009 completed the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 34, Fort Bliss, Texas.
CSM Bennett’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with Silver Oak Leaf, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal with bronze clasps (three loops), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with Silver Oak Leaf, National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 5 affixed, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 3 affixed, Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, NATO medal and the Combat Action Badge.
He holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Radiation Science from the University of Cincinnati. He is married to the former Paula S. Allen and has three sons, Cameron, Drew, and Bryce.
