Chief Warrant Officer Five John Harris III is the second Command Chief Warrant Officer for the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne). He holds the position as the principal advisor to the Commanding General on all Warrant Officer matters.
CW5 Harris possesses nearly 30 years of military service. CW5 Harris has deployed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom three times in 2001, 2007, and 2011, serving as a Detachment Commander in 2007 and 2011. CW5 Harris has served most recently as an AGR Senior Airdrop Systems Technician at the 333rd Quartermaster Detachment (Division Parachute Office) and principal advisor to the 143rd Sustainment Command. Prior to that he served with the 824th Quartermaster Company beginning in 2016 and at the 421st Quartermaster Company beginning in 2011. In these positions, CW5 Harris was vital in developing policies to ensure accuracy and safety during USAR airdrop operations. He actively participated in numerous DOD Malfunction Review Boards to discuss and implement improvements within the Aerial Delivery field. CW5 Harris’ expertise was utilized for mobilization efforts, including assignments at Fort Bragg, Fort Dix, and Birmingham, AL, where he served as a Mobilization Liaison NCO until 2007. As an enlisted Soldier and NCO, CW5 Harris was also responsible for supervising, packing, and repairing of cargo and personnel parachutes, as well as rigging equipment and supply containers for airdrop operations. He began his military career in 1995 with the 421st Quartermaster Company in Fort Valley, GA.
CW5 Harris has completed the Warrant Officer Senior Service Education Course, Military Free Fall Jumpmaster Course, Reserve Component Supply Systems Technician Course, Airdrop Systems Technician Warrant Officer Basic Course, Contracting Officers Representative Course, Air Movement Control Officers Course, Pathfinder Course, Jumpmaster Course, Airdrop Load Inspectors Course, and Basic Airborne Course. He completed Warrant Officer Candidate School in 2007. CW5 Harris’ awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hourglass and with “M” Device, Army Overseas Service Ribbon with the Numeral 3, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon with Numeral 6.
CW5 Harris earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems in 2014. CW5 Harris resides in Aberdeen, North Carolina with his wife Alfreda. They have four sons, DeRomeo, John, Rylan, and Aiden.
