Chief Warrant Officer Five (CW5) Travis L. Baty is currently the Senior Warrant Officer Advisor and Officer Accessions Chief for the United States Army Reserve Careers Group (USARCG). CW5 Baty is responsible for overseeing Army Reserve policy and procedures in the acquiring of Officer and Warrant Officer Candidates as well as the re-appointment of Officers into the Army Reserve. Chief Baty is the head of Warrant Officer Initial Military Training team for all Warrant Officer Candidates and Warrant Officer Ones within the Army Reserve as well. Prior to his assignment at USARCG Travis L. Baty was the Command Chief Warrant Officer of the Army Reserve Aviation Command (ARAC) and the Aviation Warrant Officer Proponent Advisor of the United States Army Reserve (USAR). He was responsible for developing and synchronizing Warrant Officer Policy initiatives. He advised the ARAC Commander and their staff on the life cycle of Warrant Officer talent management, including force modernization, recruiting, training, utilization, education, and career enhancement of today’s Warrant Officer.
CW5 Baty has served in increasing levels of responsibility as a Non-Commissioned Officer and as a Chief Warrant Officer, both stateside and abroad, cumulating in his most recent assignment at the United States Army Reserve Careers Group. He enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1991 as Medium Helicopter Repairer (67U). In 1992, he transitioned to active duty, serving at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Camp Humphrey, South Korea. In 1999, He left active duty and returned to his original Army Reserve unit in New Century, KS as a Flight Engineer Instructor on Chinook Helicopters. Following this he was selected for warrant officer as a Chinook Pilot. Upon graduation of flight school, he returned to New Century, KS and began his progression as a Chinook Helicopter Pilot. From 2005 until 2006, he was deployed to Afghanistan as a CH47 Pilot, with four months of humanitarian Army Aviation supported relief following the earthquake in Pakistan. In 2009, he helped stand up the Army Reserve’s mission for Defense Support of Civil Authorities, which included training the Ugandan Air Force in Air Assault techniques and employment of their M-17 Helicopters. In 2010, He was sent to Morocco to instruct the Moroccan Air Force on the capabilities of the Chinook Helicopter. He deployed to Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012 with B Company, 7th Battalion,158th Aviation Regiment in support Regional Command East, Afghanistan as the company standardization pilot. Upon returning from Afghanistan, he was sent to 7-158th Aviation Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas where he served as the Aviation Mission Survivability Officer (AMSO), followed by serving as the Battalion Operations Officer and the Battalion Standardization Pilot. In 2016, CW5 Baty was sent to the C-12, Multi- Engine Fixed Wing Course and was assigned as the Executive Officer of C Company, 6-52 Aviation at Fort Knox, Kentucky. In 2018, he was assigned to the Human Resource Command as the AGR Career Manager for the Army Reserve, during this time he managed the careers of all AGR Aviation, CID, Engineer, Boat and Transportation Corps Warrant Officers. In 2021, He was assigned to the U.S. Army Reserve Aviation Command as the Command Standardization Pilot.
CW5 Baty’s military education includes Warrant Officer Senior Service Education Course, Warrant Officer Intermediate Level Education Course, Warrant Officer Advanced Course, Warrant Officer Basic Course, Aviation Mission Survivability Course, CH-47 Instructor Pilot Course, Aviation Safety Officer Course, Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, Medium Helicopter Repairers Advanced Individual Training Course and Air Assault School. He is a graduate of DoD Defense Support of Civil Authorities (Phase 1 and 2). His Aircraft Qualifications include the CH-47D, CH-47F, UH-60A/L and the C-12. He currently holds FAA certificates as a Commercial Rotary Wing Pilot with an Instrument rating. He is completing his Bachelor of Science Liberal Arts degree with Excelsior College.
CW5 Baty’s awards and decorations are representative of a Master Army Aviator with his years of experience and level of responsibility. These include the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (awarded three times), the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (awarded four times), the Army Achievement Medal (awarded twice), the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 3 stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with a 3 device, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device, the Combat Action Badge, Master Aviator Wings and the Air Assault Badge.
