Brig. Gen. John D. Rhodes serves as the Commanding General of the 316 Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Brig. Gen. Rhodes is responsible for sustainment operations and the oversight of manning, equipping, and training five subordinate O6-level Army Reserve commands consisting of over 8,800 Soldiers.
Brig. Gen. John D. Rhodes graduated from the University Alabama in Huntsville where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He attended Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Alabama A&M University and commissioned through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps as an Engineer officer. Brig. Gen. Rhodes spent most of his career serving as a Transportation officer and multi-functional logistician.
His command assignments include the 3rd Transportation Brigade, Fort Belvoir, VA; the 257th Movement Control Battalion in Gainesville, Florida; the 196th Transportation Battalion (PLS), Orlando, Florida; and Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) 32nd Transportation Group, Tampa, Florida. His key staff assignments include the G3, 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in Orlando, Florida; Deputy Commanding Officer, 451st Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Wichita, Kansas; G3, 81st Readiness Division. S3 and Executive Officer, 332nd Transportation Battalion, Tampa, Florida. Brig. Gen. Rhodes assumed his duties as the Commander of the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) on 24 July 2023.
Brig. Gen. Rhodes is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, the Engineer Advance Course, the Command and General Staff College, the Joint Forces Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.
He has multiple overseas tours to include service in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Spartan Shield, Inherent Resolve, and the Republic of Korea. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, six Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, and three Army Achievement Medals.
In his civilian career, Brig. Gen. Rhodes is a Supervisory Operations and Training Officer at the 143d Expeditionary Sustainment Command. He and his wife Laura live in Orlando, Florida.
