Col. David M. Newman is a distinguished miliary graduate of Kemper Military School and College in 1999. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Creighton University in International Studies in 2001. Col. Newman also holds a Juris Doctor from Creighton University Law School with certificates in International and Comparative Law and Litigation. He also has a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College. Col. Newman assumed command of the 561st Regional Support Group (RSG) in August 2022. His positions in the Army Reserve include: Assistant Chief of Staff – G2, 76th Operational Response Command; Operations Officer (S3), 259th Expeditionary Military Intelligence (MI) Brigade, Tumwater, WA; Commander, 383rd Theater Support MI Battalion, Belton, MO; Executive Officer (XO), Detachment 6, 2100 MI Group, Lincoln, NE; Division Chief – Strategic Relocatable Targets, Deputy Division Chief – Strategic Analysis, and Branch Chief, Joint Reserve Element, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
Col. Newman served on active duty from 2001 to 2007. His positions included: MI Liaison Officer; Air Force Weather Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska; and, Rear Detachment Commander, Company XO, and Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader, 1-16th Infantry, Fort Riley, Kansas.
Col. Newman deployed to Baghdad, Iraq as the Multi-National Corps – Iraq (MNC-I), Iraq Security Force Coalition Planning Action Officer and then Battle Captain for Iraqi Security Forces in the Corps’ Analytical Control Element from June 2005 to July 2006.
His awards and decorations include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal with OLC, Army and Air Force Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal, Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award (2 OLC), Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Parachutist Badge, German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency (Gold), and Norwegian Foot March Badge (Silver).
