Col. Benjamin W. Buchholz

Commander, 3rd Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary)

Benjamin “Will” Buchholz is the commander of the 3rd Expeditionary Transportation Brigade.  Previously he served on ADOS in the EUCOM J2 as the Senior Liaison for the intelligence relationship with Ukraine, and prior to that taught at the Joint Military Attache School and served as Senior Defense Official / Defense Attache for US Embassy-Tashkent, Uzbekistan during the withdrawal of coalition forces from Afghanistan.

He completed battalion command in the Reserves with the 1/11th Training Battalion in Boise, ID. Earlier in his career as a Foreign Area Officer, Will served as Army Attaché in Yemen during the Houthi overthrow, and in various military and civilian roles in Oman during the Arab Spring, Kuwait, Iraq, Dubai, and Lebanon.  He speaks fluent Arabic and holds Masters' degrees in Near East Studies from Princeton as well as a second Master’s in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, where he was Distinguished Honor Graduate, and his thesis won the LTG Thomas Plewes Reserve Strategy Writing Award.  He and his wife Flora recently toured the US and Canada in support of Flora’s one-woman storytelling show.
