416th Theater Engineer Command

Brigadier General Martin C. Jung currently serves as the Deputy Commanding General (Support) for the 416th Theater Engineer Command (TEC).

 

The 416th is one of only two TECs in the Army, conducting theater-level engineer operations supporting a joint force, executing full spectrum operations, while providing trained and ready units to support mission requirements worldwide.  The TEC has specialized capabilities for horizontal and vertical construction; Sapper, bridging and route clearance; and various technical engineering support elements.  The TEC consists of approximately 10,900 Soldiers across 26-states with primary mission emphasis in the European, Middle East, and African Theaters.

 

BG Jung enlisted as a Carpentry Masonry Specialist in 1992 and was commissioned as an Engineer Officer from Marquette University ROTC in 1997.  He has served in a full array of positions from Assault and Obstacle Platoon Leader (Germany and the Balkans) to Command positions at every level. Notable previous assignments include Chief of Staff, HQ U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Assistant Commandant, U.S. Army Engineer School; Commander, 378th FEST-M, 416th Theater Engineer Command; Deputy Commander – Forward, USACE Middle East District; Battalion Commander, 11th BN/95th REGT (OES); and Commander, 377th Forward Engineer Support Team-Advanced (FEST-A). He has performed work in 18-countries throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia while on various operational assignments, training, and exercises.

 

Through his career, BG Jung has functioned as a Surveyor, Estimator, Project Engineer, Crane Critical Lift Engineer, Construction Manager, Corporate Safety Manager and Environmental, Health and Safety Manager in private industry.  He has been employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers since 2009 initially supporting heavy civil infrastructure (Facilities, Locks, Dams, River Structures) performing project engineering and construction safety management.  He serves as one of USACE’s 40-certified Structural Specialists for FEMA Urban Search and Rescue teams.  He has served as a U.S. Delegate to the NATO Military Engineer Working Group, Infrastructure Management Panel at the NATO Military Engineering Centre of Excellence in Ingolstadt, Germany. His most recent position (2018-present) is serving as Program Manager for the Army Facilities Components System (AFCS) producing the Joint Construction Management Software.  The AFCS Program provides over 700 standardized contingency designs, provides training to over 5,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines annually, advises on 16-pieces of Contingency Doctrine, and serves as the Joint Services authoritative data source for engineering and construction-related data.

 

BG Jung is a registered Professional Engineer (State of Missouri), Project Management Professional (Project Management Institute) and Certified Professional Constructor (American Institute of Constructors).  He holds two Bachelor of Science degrees (Architectural Engineering and Management Systems) from Milwaukee School of Engineering.  He is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College Common Core and Advanced Operations Courses and holds a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.  He has served as a U.S. Army doctrinal subject matter expert for construction, engineering, and contingency basing doctrine, and as an operational expert for numerous research and development programs.  He has authored several magazine articles, reports, and white papers in support of contingency engineering and construction. BG Jung owns his own Engineering and Construction Consulting business and has received numerous civilian and military awards to include the ERDC Leadership in Operational Support, Leadership in Program Development, and Leadership in Research and Development.  Military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (w/ 4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (w/ 3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, numerous campaign medals, the German Armed Forces Military Proficiency Badge, and the Silver Order of the de Fleury Medal.

 

BG Jung and his wife Krissy have been married since 1997 and have three grown children, Jacob, Katie, and Megan. BG Jung is an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
