Major General Jennifer Marrast Host was born in Grenada and raised in New York. She completed her undergraduate studies at the City University of New York - Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Minor in Chemistry. In May 1997, she earned her Doctor of Medicine Degree from Rutgers University School of Medicine. She is a board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician, completing her Emergency Medicine Residency in May 2000 as the Chief at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center, New York. She currently works as the Associate Chief of Staff of Education at the Atlanta Veteran Affair Health Care System, Atlanta, Georgia.
In July 1997, MG Marrast Host commissioned as a captain in the U.S. Army. Her military education includes the Army Strategic Educational Program (ASEP-A), Global Health Engagement Course, Army War College with Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I, II), Military Strategic Leadership Program (MSLP), Joint Operations Medical Management Course, Medical Management of Chemical and Biological Casualty Care, Command and General Staff College (ILE), Advanced Officer Course, and Officer Basic Course.
MG Marrast Host most recently served as the Assistant Surgeon General - Mobilization, Readiness and Reserve Affairs / Deputy Commanding General AR-MEDCOM. She also served as the Deputy Commanding General, 807th Theater Medical Command, Chief of Staff, 3d Theater Medical Command - Fort Gillem, Georgia, Commander, 3d MCDS -Theater Medical Command FWD, comprising thirteen units dispersed amongst three operational theaters and seven countries, delivering Force Health Protection and Health Service Support in a COVID environment. Her previous assignments include: 5th Medical Brigade - Birmingham, Alabama; Commander, 75th Combat Support Hospital (FWD) U.S. Military Hospital (USMH-K) - Kuwait; Commander, 1207 BN USAH - Fort Benning, Georgia; Command Surgeon, Chief of Medical Professional Services, 3d MCDS (FWD) Kuwait; Chief Medical Officer Hawaii IRT Mission; Emergency Medicine Physician, 5501 USAH - Fort Gordon, Georgia; BN Surgeon, 1/34 - 133rd Infantry BCT, Iraq; Chief of Medical Operations, Task Force Victory, Bagram, Afghanistan; Emergency Medicine Physician, 452nd CSH, Bagram, Afghanistan; and the AMEDD Professional Management Command.
Her military awards include the Legion of Merit (2 Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (6 Oak Leaf Clusters), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Overseas Training Ribbon (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (1 Campaign Star), and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device (3rd Award).
MG Marrast Host is married to Christopher Host for 33 years, and they have one son, Justin.
