BG Kirk Dailey graduated from Purdue University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering & Management. He later earned a Master of Engineering degree in Engineering Management from the University of Louisville in 2000. He enlisted in the Army Reserve in October 1990 and received a direct commission to Second Lieutenant in May 1995.
BG Dailey’s professional military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic and Advance Courses, Combined Arms & Services Staff School, Intermediate Level Education, Advanced Operations Course, Defense Strategy Course, Advanced Joint Professional Military Education, and U.S. Army War College.
BG Dailey has served in command and staff leadership positions at all levels. His assignments include Platoon Leader in both the 394th Engineer Company (Dump Truck), Bardstown, KY and the 611th Engineer Company (Light Equipment), Sharonville, OH. After serving as Civil Engineer, Fort Knox Facility Engineer Team, 416th Engineer Command, he commanded the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 373d Quartermaster Battalion (Petroleum Supply), Louisville, KY followed by the 125th Transportation Company, Lexington, KY.
BG Dailey was cross-leveled from command to deploy as S-5, Purchasing/Contracting Officer, 375th Transportation Group, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, with responsibility for $400M in theater transportation contracts. Upon redeploying, BG Dailey served as Deputy Chief, Support Operations Contracting Office, 21st Theater Support Command, first in the CONUS Augmentation unit in Indianapolis, IN and then at the Headquarters in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Afterwards, BG Dailey continued to serve in the Army Acquisition Corps, first as Contract Management Officer with U.S. Army Reserve Command and then as Executive Officer of the 915th Support Battalion (Contingency Contracting) in Baltimore, MD.
BG Dailey then transferred to the 412th Theater Engineer Command, Vicksburg, MS as Facilities Contract/Construction Management Engineer in preparation for deployment to the Headquarters, US Forces-Afghanistan, where he served as Chief, Assured Mobility Support Branch in the Joint Engineer Directorate. Upon redeploying from that joint assignment, BG Dailey commanded the 2d Battalion, 340th Regiment (Training Support), Louisville, KY. His next assignments were in the 416th Theater Engineer Command Headquarters, first as Deputy OIC for the General Engineering Operations Center and then as the Deputy Chief of Staff, G2 upon promotion to Colonel.
BG Dailey’s most recent command was of the 648th Regional Support Group in St. Louis, MO. He subsequently served as the Deputy Commander of the 100th Training Division (Leader Development), Fort Knox, KY, following assignment as the Division Chief of Staff. His most recent position was the Army Service Lead and Emergent Sourcing Deputy on the Joint Staff, J35 in Norfolk, VA.
BG Dailey is married to Michelle Vessels, who along with their five adult kids, all live in Louisville, Kentucky where she teaches middle school and he is the Construction Division Chief for the Louisville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
