First Sergeant Cherise M. Nuckols

First Sergeant

1SG Cherise M. Nuckols was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, and upon graduating high school she migrated to the United States to join her parents and pursue a Bachelor’s degree. In 2002, 1SG Nuckols enlisted in the Army as an Administrative Specialist (71L) and completed Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Jackson, SC in 2003. She earned her undergraduate degree in 2006 and subsequently transitioned her military career to a Paralegal Specialist (27D) and Human Resources Specialist (42A).

As an Army Reserve Soldier between 2009 and 2012, she supported three mobilizations at the Seventh Army Joint Multinational Training Command in Germany, United States Army Africa/ Southern European Task Force in Italy, and the Military District of Washington respectively. Given her breadth of experience, in 2012 1SG Nuckols joined the Active Guard Reserve program where she served as the Training and Operations NCO at the 128th Legal Operations Detachment. Upon completion of her initial tour, 1SG Nuckols transferred to the Military Intelligence Readiness Command as a Senior Paralegal and was succeedingly elected as their Assistant Inspector General. Successive assignments include the Office of Chief Army Reserve and the 76 Operational Response Command where she served in both organizations as the Chief Paralegal NCO.

Her expansive military education includes the following courses: Company Commander and First Sergeants Course, Action Officer Integration Course, Inspector General Basic Course, Master Leaders Course, Army Recruiter Course, Master Resilience Trainer, Battle Staff NCO Course, Antiterrorism Officer Basic Course, Unit Prevention Leader Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, and Sexual Harassment/ Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Course. Her civilian education includes a Certificate in International Business, a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Cornell University, and a Master of Arts in International Relations and Conflict Resolution at American Military University.

Her military awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with “M” device, Bronze hourglass), Army Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon (2nd Award), Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon. She has also earned the Army Recruiter Badge, Inspector General Identification Badge and the German Schuetzenschnur/ German Marksmanship Badge (Gold).

1SG Nuckols is the youngest of four children; two of her older brothers also serve in the military while the oldest maintained a civilian career. She and her husband have one child.
