Sergeant Major James G. Schulz

Deputy Commandant

SGM James Schulz was born in Monroe, Michigan. He entered the US Navy in November 1990 and was honorably discharged in December 1994. He entered US Army Reserve September 22, 2001. SGM Schulz was selected for the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) program in June 2012.

He was awarded the MOS of 88M Motor Transport Operator. Shortly after his first deployment he was promoted and reclassed to 11B Infantryman after successful competition of training at Fort Benning, Georgia.

SGM Schulz has held a variety of positions throughout his military career from Team Leader to First Sergeant. He was Senior Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Drill Sergeant Mentor/Trainer, Senior Instructor, and First Sergeant.

His stateside assignments include, Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Fort Bliss, Texas. He has multiple deployments to Iraq, and Afghanistan.

SGM Schulz’s military education includes Primary Leadership and Development Course, The Basic NCO Course, The Maneuver Advanced NCO Course, The Master Leader Course, Sergeants Major Course Class 72, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, The Army Recruiting Course, Total Army Instructor Training Course, Counterinsurgency Leaders Course, Foreign Security Forces-Combat Advisor Course, United States Army Ranger School, Light Leaders Infantry School, Combative Level I & II, Airborne School, and Drill Sergeant School. SGM Schulz has his Associates of Arts in General Studies and his Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and his Master of Science in Criminal Justice; Concentration in Homeland Security.

SGM Schulz’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (7 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal 4th Award, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (2 OLC), National Defense Service Medal (1 BS), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 CS), Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 CS), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Ranger Tab, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, US Army Recruiter Badge, US Army Basic Instructor Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Basic Rifle Marksmanship Qualification Badge. SGM Schulz is a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Association, and The Order of Saint Maurice, Centurion.

SGM Schulz resides in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin and has three amazing children.
