Colonel David J. Davis is the interim commander of the 78th Training Division, Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was commissioned into the U.S. Army as an Engineer Officer following graduation from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1997.
His previous assignments include: Platoon Leader in the 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat)(Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Platoon Leader in the 458th Engineer Battalion Indiana, Pennsylvania; Vertical Platoon Leader in the 368 Engineer Battalion, Londonderry, New Hampshire; Commander of the 420th Engineer Company (Clearance) Indiana, Pennsylvania; Engineer Team Chief and Battalion S-3 of the 2-312th Regiment, First Army East, Fort Dix, New Jersey; Chief Observer Controller/ Trainer for the 75th Training Command, Atlantic Training Division, Fort Dix, New Jersey; Commander of the 1-80th Engineer Battalion, Kingwood West Virginia; Branch Chief for 1st Brigade of the 78th Training Division, Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; Deputy Commander 78th Training Division, Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Col. Davis earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Secondary Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 2003, he was awarded a Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.
Col. Davis’ military education includes the Advanced Operations Course, the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Engineer Officer Basic and Career Courses, Airborne, Air Assault, Jumpmaster and Sapper school.
His awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), and the Global War of Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. He has also earned the Sapper Tab, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Silver German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge.
