Maj. Gen. Michael D. Roache

Major General Michael D. Roache is currently assigned as the Chief of Staff, United States Army Reserve Command, headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His last assignment was the Deputy Commanding General – Sustainment, Eighth Army, at Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea.

Major General Roache is a native of Kingsport, Tennessee. He graduated from Carson-Newman University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree and was commissioned as a Transportation Officer through the Reserve Officers Training Corps. He holds a Master’s of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.

Roache’s command assignments include commanding general of the 86th Training Division at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, and the Pacific Training Division at Camp Parks, California; commander of the 646th Regional Support Group in Madison, Wisconsin; and commander of the 787th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in Dothan, Alabama.

His key staff assignments include Deputy Commanding General – Sustainment, Eighth Army, Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea; Chief of Staff, 79th Theater Sustainment Command, Los Alamitos, California; Deputy Commanding Officer, 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in Des Moines, Iowa; Deputy Commanding Officer, 321st Sustainment Brigade, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Executive Officer, 352nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in Macon, Georgia; Operations Officer, 3-347th Regiment, First Army in Orlando, Florida; and as Inspector General, 3rd Transportation Command Element in Anniston, Alabama.

Other key multifunctional assignments include Exercise Branch Chief, Great Lakes Division in Nashville, Tennessee; Detachment Chief, 145th Theater Opening Element in Anniston, Alabama; and Terminal Team Chief and Vessel Operations Officer, 1188th Transportation Battalion (Terminal) in Decatur, Georgia.

He deployed to Afghanistan serving as the Executive Officer to the Combined Joint Logistics Chief, International Security Assistance Force in Kabul, Operation Enduring Freedom.  He also deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom working as a Freight Movements Officer, 3rd Transportation Control Element in Kuwait.

Roache is a graduate of the Transportation Officer Basic and Advance Courses, Combined Services Staff School, the Army Command and General Staff School, Inspector General School, and the Advanced Joint Professional Military Education course.

Major General Roache and his wife have three children.
