COL Brant M Gunther grew up on a farm near Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was commissioned as an Infantry officer in 2000.
After the Infantry Officers Basic Course, COL Gunther served as a Rifle Platoon Leader in D Co, 1st BN, 9th IN Regiment (Manchu), 2nd IN Div. COL Gunther was then assigned to 1st BN, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment (Geronimo), FT Polk, LA. While there, he served in D TRP as a Cavalry Scout Platoon Leader, and HHC as the BN Support Platoon Leader and BN S-4. He deployed to Baghdad with 2nd BDE, 10th Mountain Division (Commando). His duties included BDE Assistant S-3, CDR’s PSD OIC, and 303rd Iraqi Army Infantry BN S-3. COL Gunther’s final assignment on active duty was to FT Bragg, where he was the BN S-1, S-4 and Observer Controller Team Chief for 1st BN, 310th IN, 189th IN BDE, First Army- Division East.
He first served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Joint Mobility Operations Officer with the US Transportation Command as the Deputy Branch Chief, U.S. Pacific Command Branch, J3. Upon mobilizing to support the joint distribution and deployment enterprise, he was assigned to the newly formed Mission Assurance Division/J34 as the Operations Branch Chief. COL Gunther then took command of the 484th Transportation BN (Movement Control). The 484th mobilized and deployed to Poland in Dec 2019 to support the European Deterrence Initiative. After battalion command, he served as the 89th Sustainment BDE Executive Officer and Assistant Chief of Staff – Support Operations for the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary). COL Gunther commanded the 757th Expeditionary Railway Center.
COL Gunther’s military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Multifunctional Logisticians Captains Career Course, Command and General Staff Officers Course, Joint and Combined Warfighting School-Hybrid, and the Army War College.
COL Gunther earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri, a Master of Business Administration degree from Missouri State University, and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College.
He was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation medal (1 SLC), Army Achievement Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and New Zealand Parachutist Badge.
