Brig. Gen. Michael M. Greer

Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (ABN)

Brig. Gen. Michael M. Greer graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1992 and received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Corp of Engineers. Upon completion of the Engineer Officer Basic course he served in a variety of National Guard and Army Reserve leadership positions in the 528th Engineer Battalion (Combat Heavy), 612th Engineer Battalion (Mechanized) and 412th Civil Affairs Battalion (FID/UW).

In 2004, Big. Gen. Greer completed the Civil Affairs Officer Qualification Course, mobilized and deployed with the 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne). He led the Civil Affairs Team Alpha assigned to the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Following deployment, he completed Intermediate Level Education and the Psychological Operations Officer Qualification Course before transferring to the 17th Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne) where he served as Executive Officer. In 2010 Brig. Gen. Greer mobilized and deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, where he served as the Deputy Commanding Officer of Psychological Operations Task Force-17. 

After demobilizing from Iraq, Brig. Gen. Greer was selected for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel and became the Deputy Commanding Officer of the 321st Civil Affairs Brigade. Brig. Gen. Greer’s past assignments included Battalion Commander, 413th Civil Affairs Battalion, and Battalion Commander, 15th Psychological Operations Battalion. Following command, Brig. Gen. Greer mobilized to the Kingdom of Bahrain as the Psychological Operations Officer at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT). At the conclusion of his mobilization, BG Greer was selected for Colonel and assigned as a Branch Chief, 3rd BDE, Gulf Division, 75th Training Command, prior to his selection as Brigade Commander, 6th BDE, 102nd DIV, CA/PO.

Brig. Gen. Greer was the Chief of Staff at the 80th Training Command (TASS) prior to his selection for Brigadier General, and assignment to his current position of Deputy Commanding General (DCG) of the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne).

Brig. Gen. Greer’s civilian education includes holding a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University, and Master of Science Degrees in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and the Army War College.

Brig. Gen. Greer’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corp Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd award), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (4th Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Service and Expeditionary Medals, Parachutist Badge, Italian Parachutist Badge and the Combat Action Badge.

He is a retired Federal Agent and resides in Louisiana with his wife, Meredith. They have three sons:  1st Lt. Will Greer, U.S. Army, 2nd Lt. Hays Greer, U.S. Army and Cadet Michael Greer, U.S. Army.
