Sergeant Major Rich Perez

Interim Command Sergeant Major, 88th Readiness Division

Sergeant Major Perez assumed the duties as the Interim Command Sergeant Major of the 88th Readiness Division (RD), Fort Snelling, Minnesota on 1 June 2020.  He is also assigned as the G-1 SGM for the 88th Readiness Division (RD).

Sergeant Major Perez has served in a variety of positions in active duty and reserve since 1 July 1993.  His key NCO assignments include; Operations Management Division (OMD) SGM, Human Resources Command; G 1/4 SGM, Human Resources Command; Program Manager, Joint Intelligence Coordination Staff (JICS); Operations Sergeant for the United States Army Reserve Command (USARC) G-1; Team Chief, Initial Military Training (IMT)/Manning Division NCOIC, United States Army Reserve Command (USARC) G-1; Senior Enlisted Advisor, B Company, I Corps, United States Army; Reserve Recruiter, Saint Louis, Recruiting Company, and Senior Human Resource NCO, General Officer Advisory Board (GOAB), General Officer Management Office (GOMO), Office of the Chief Army Reserve (OCAR).

A native of Lansing, Michigan, SGM Perez enlisted in the Army in 1993 and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training as a 13M (M270 Gunner) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  After serving 3 years with B Battery 5/17 FA at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he transitioned into the Army Reserves and reclassified to 88M.  After serving 4 years as a TPU soldier, he reclassified once more to 75B and accepted an AGR position where he continues to serve.

SGM Perez’ significant military education includes the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy, Battle Staff Course, United States Army Recruiting School, Reserve Component-National Security Course, Security Management Course, and the Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Courses 1 & 2.

In addition to a 15-month deployment to Iraq, SGM Perez deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, assigned to I Corps with duty at the International Joint Command (IJC) as the Regional Command Coordinator in the J-1 Cell, Kabul Afghanistan.  He earned the Defense Meritorious Medal and the Joint Achievement Service Medal during his 12-month deployment.

SGM Perez received his Associates Degree in General Studies from Grantham University, and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Administration Grantham University.

SGM Perez’ awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Meritorious Service Medal (5th Award), Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2nd Award with M Device), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with Numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Recruiter Badge, and Army Chief of Staff Identification Badge.

SGM Perez has a son Isaac and daughter Karsyn.
