Brigadier General Steven B. McLaughlin

Commanding General, 100th Training Division

Brigadier General Steven B. McLaughlin assumed command of the 100th Training Division (Leader Development) at Fort Knox, Kentucky on 1 November 2019.

Brigadier General McLaughlin is a native of Hillsborough, California. He received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1994, through the Reserve Officer Training Corps from Santa Clarita University, CA.

His early duty assignments include: S-2 Officer 28th Transportation Battalion (Medium Truck), and Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in the 70th Transportation Company (Medium Truck) in Mannheim, Germany. He deployed to Hungary in support of Operation Joint Endeavor in 1995. In August 1997, Brigadier General McLaughlin deployed to Kaposújlak Airfield in Hungary as Base Camp Mayor and Commander, HHD 28th Transportation Battalion (Forward) in support of Operation Joint Guard. Upon completion of his active duty commitment in 1998, Brigadier General McLaughlin joined the 1397th Transportation Terminal Brigade in Oakland, CA. In May 1999, he assumed command of the 481st Transportation Company (Heavy Boat) at Mare Island, CA and in 2002 became the battalion S2/3 for the 483rd Transportation Battalion (Terminal). In October 2004, he deployed to Ash Shuaiba, Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was then assigned as the acting battalion commander, and later served as battalion executive officer for 483rd Transportation Battalion. In 2009, he was assigned to the 63rd Regional Support Command at Moffett Field, CA as Human Resources Officer and acting Historian. He commanded the 483rd Transportation Battalion (Terminal) again from 2009 to 2012. Following command, he mobilized with the 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) (Rear Detachment) in Los Angeles, CA as the G3 and became the Assistant Chief of Staff, G3/5/7 for the 311th ESC. In September 2015, he assumed command of the 1394th Transportation Brigade at Camp Pendleton, California. Following brigade command, he was assigned as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee with Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command at Scott Air Force Base, IL. In 2018, he became G3/5/7 of the 63rd RD in Mountain View, CA and later Division Chief of Staff.

Brigadier General McLaughlin’s awards include: The Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1 Silver OLC), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Medal (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Overseas Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, and the German Army Truppendienst (Bronze).

Brigadier General McLaughlin’s military schools include the Transportation Officer Basic Course and Advanced Courses, Combined Armed Service and Staff School, Intermediate Level Education (ILE) Common Core, Army War College, Joint Combined Warfighter School, BN/BDE Pre Command Course, the Force Management How the Army Runs Course (HTARC) and the Anti-Terrorism Officer Course (Level 2 and Level 4).

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Political Science from Santa Clara University and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College.

Brigadier General McLaughlin and his wife have two children. They currently reside in Burlingame, California.
