Brig. Gen. Donald Absher

Army Reserve Sustainment Command

Brig. Gen. Donald Absher serves as the commanding general of the Army Reserve Sustainment Command. He most recently served as the vice commander of Joint Enabling Capabilities Command headquartered at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.

Absher is a 1985 graduate of California State University-Sonoma with a bachelor’s degree in Cell Biology and earned a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in 2012. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant through the Army’s Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1988. His military education also includes the Chemical Officer Basic Course in 1988 (distinguished military graduate), and he is an honor graduate of both the Ordnance Officer Advance Course and Chemical Officer Advance Course. In addition, Absher is a graduate of the Army’s Senior Transportation Officer Orientation Course, Strategic Deployment Planners Course, and U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

His previous assignments include: chief, Deployment and Distribution Operations Center, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; commander, 641st Regional Support Group, St. Petersburg, Florida; commander, 1182nd Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion, North Charleston, South Carolina; commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 115th Area Support Group, Roseville, California; and commander, 194th Terminal Supervision Team, Daytona Beach, Florida. His other key assignments include platoon leader; Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Reconnaissance Platoon; 91st Chemical Company, 24th Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; S-4, 724th Maintenance Battalion, Benicia, California; deputy team chief, 194th and 195th Terminal Supervision Teams, 143rd Transportation Command, Orlando, Florida; operations officer, U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency’s Chemical and Biological Intelligence Support Team, Baghdad; and chief of Resource Management, 595th Transportation Terminal Group, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

Personal awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), Joint Commendation Medal (oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (oak leaf cluster), Southwest Asia Service Medal (with three bronze stars), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Kuwaiti Liberation Medals (Kuwait and Saudi Arabia).
