Maj. Gen. Laurence “Scott” Linton assumed duties as the Deputy Commanding General-USAR, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), on Aug 27, 2022, and Deputy Commanding General, Center for Initial Military Training (CIMT), on August 16, 2024. Prior to his current assignments, he served as the TRADOC Deputy Chief of Staff.
MG Linton enlisted in the Army in 1985 and served in the 218th MP Company in Garmisch, Germany. While in college, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve serving as a Non-Commissioned Officer instructing Basic Rifle Marksmanship in the 108th Training Command. MG Linton graduated in 1992 from the State University of New York at Cortland and commissioned as an Armor Officer.
He has served in a variety of Command and Staff positions to include Calvary Scout Platoon Leader, 5/9 Calvary Squadron, 25th ID(L), Schofield Barracks Hawaii; HHC DISCOM Detachment Commander (Fwd), and Port-au-Prince Haiti; DISCOM MCO, 10th ID (L) Fort Drum, New York; SFOR Support Command C3 Logistics Plans Officer, Zagreb, Croatia; Assistant Professor of Military Science Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana; S2/3, 1173rd Transportation Battalion, Brockton, Massachusetts; Assistant Operations Officer at 1185th Transportation Brigade, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Plans Officer, Port of Shuaiba, Kuwait; Deputy Commander 1179th Transportation Brigade, Fort Hamilton, New York; Army Staff as the Operations Contract Support Branch Chief, Current Operations Division Chief, and Deputy Director G43, Washington, DC; Chief of Staff, 311th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Los Angeles, California; Army Reserve G-4, USARC, Fort Liberty, North Carolina; Commanding General of the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; Chief of Staff, Countermeasures Acceleration Group formally referred to as Operation Warp Speed, Washington, DC; and Deputy Commanding General, 88th Readiness Division, Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
MG Linton has deployments in support of Operation Restore Democracy, Operations Joint Guard, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
MG Linton earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics, a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Technology, and a Master's Degree in Strategic Studies. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Staff Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Army Staff Identification Badge and both the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge and Marksmanship Medal in Silver.
