Brigadier General Michelle Link graduated from Michigan State University, in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant (Engineer) in the United States Army Reserve. She earned a Master of Science degree with Distinction in Engineering, Management from the University of Hertfordshire, England in 2001 and a Master of Science Degree from the Army War College in 2017. Her service education includes the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, and Command and General Staff College.
Brigadier General Link has served in a variety of command and staff positions over the length of her career. She started as a Platoon Leader in the 983rd Engineer Battalion, United States Army Reserve, before transferring into the Ohio Army National Guard. While a member of the Ohio National Guard, her assignments included: assistant S3 and HHC Commander within the 612th Engineer Battalion, Facilities Design Engineer and Plans Officer of the 416th Engineer Group Design Management Section and Executive Officer of the 512th Engineer Battalion. She served with the 412th Theater Engineer Command (forward) in Heidelberg, Germany from 1997 to1999 and deployed to Afghanistan as the Engineering Plans Officer from 2003 to 2004. She transferred back to the United States Army Reserve in 2007 where she served as an Engineer Plans Officer for the 8th United States Army (CONUS) before taking broadening assignments in the 75th Training Division as an Observer/Controller Trainer and within the Army Reserve Sustainment Command as the Tank Automotive Command Detachment Logistics Chief. She commanded the 478th Engineer Battalion in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky from 2014-2016 and the 372nd Engineer Brigade in Ft. Snelling, Minnesota from 2017-2019. She has also held the position of Deputy Chief of Staff, G3 and Chief of Staff for the 416th Theater Engineer Command in Darien, Illinois. In her civilian capacity, Brigadier General Link serves as Product Support Manager, Program Executive Office Ground Combat Systems, Assistant Secretary of the Army, (Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology), Warren, Michigan.
