Command Sergeant Major James C. Stoots is a native of Bowling Green, Ohio.  He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in March of 1989, and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama.  In August 1990, he attended Advanced Individualized Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey where he was awarded the Motor Transport Operator (88M) Military Occupational Specialty. In August 1992, he attended the United States Army Reserve Force School Fort McCoy, Wisconsin where he was awarded the Carpentry and Masonry (12W) Military Occupational Specialty.

CSM Stoots’ duty positions consisted of Motor Transport Operator Specialist, Carpentry Masonry Sergeant, Construction Squad Leader, Construction Supervisor, Operations and Training Noncommissioned Officer, Construction Platoon Sergeant, Construction Operations Sergeant, General Engineering Supervisor (Sustainment Range and Training Lands Program Manager), First Sergeant, and Installation Management Sergeant Major, and currently Noncommissioned Officer Academy Commandant.

His assignments include, Charlie Company 983rd Engineer Battalion Toledo, Ohio; 983rd Engineer Battalion Combat Heavy Monclova, Ohio; HHC 391st MP BN Columbus, Ohio; B Company 980th Engineer Combat Battalion (H) San Antonio, Texas; 302nd Engineer Company (V) San Antonio, Texas; 416th Theatre Engineer Command Darien, Illinois; United States Army Reserve Command (USARC) Sustainable Range Program Fort McPherson, Georgia; USARC G37 Fort Bragg, North Carolina; 926th Engineer Brigade Montgomery, Alabama; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Fort Bliss, Texas; OCAR/USARC Army Reserve Installation Management Division Fort Belvoir, VA & Fort Bragg, NC; Noncommissioned Officer Academy Commandant Parks Reserve Force Training Area.  Deployments consist of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

CSM Stoots’ military education includes 51B-MOS Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Battle Staff Course, Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Rappel Master Course, Joint Engineer Operations Course, Master Resilience Training Facilitators Course, Contracting Officers Course, Range Facility Management System Course, and United States Army Reserve Quota Managers Course.  His civilian education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies from Grantham University, Lenexa, Kansas.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (6 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (5 knots), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (5OLC), National Defense Service Medal (BSS), Iraq Campaign Medal (2BSS), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (silver hourglass, M, Numeral 2), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon (Numeral 4), Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Action Badge, De Fleury Medal, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and Department of Army Staff Badge.

CSM Stoots is married to his junior high sweetheart, and they have four kids and six grandchildren.
