Mr. Michael Bland assumed the duties as Command Executive Officer for the 80th Training Command June 2010. Prior to becoming the CXO, he was the Staff Operations and Training Officer/G7 for the Command. As the CXO, Mr. Bland provides executive leadership, management, and oversight of plans, programs and policies in the 80th TC.
He reports to the Commanding General for a Geographic Command with units dispersed across 39 States and Puerto Rico. He directs, manages and supervises operations of the command in the absence of the Commander. He supervises a workforce of 6,000 Soldiers (Active Guard Reserve and Troop Program Unit), Civilians (Military Technicians and Department of the Army Civilians) and Contractors. He manages the Command’s current operations, information management, resource management, force structure, manpower, EO/EEO Programs, Safety, SHARP and suicide prevention.
Mr. Bland began his federal civilian career in 1988. He has served continuously for over 29 years as a military technician. Twenty-two of those years have been served in the 80th Division (Institutional Training) later the 80th Training Command and seven in the 78th Division (Exercise) later the 78th Training Support Division.
Mr. Bland has worked at several echelons that includes Battalion, Brigade, Division and Command level. He has held positions ranging from Unit Administrator, Training Specialist, Staff Operations Training Officer to Command Executive Officer. He has received several Commander’s Awards for Civilian Service and Superior Civilian Service.
Mr. Bland earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from Virginia Commonwealth University and an Army ROTC Commission from the University of Richmond in 1983.
He is a native of Lawrenceville, VA. He and his wife have three children and two grandchildren. Mr. Bland and his wife reside in Chesterfield, VA.
