Brigadier General Michael Shanley assumed the duties of Commanding General, 85th U.S. Army Reserve Support Command, headquartered in Arlington Heights, Illinois on 7 June 2024. He grew up in Clifton, New Jersey. He entered the U.S. Army in 1996 and was commissioned in the Military Police Corps.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN; a Master of Business Administration from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY; an Executive Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, PA. He is also a Certified Defense Financial Manager with Acquisition specialty (CDFM-A) and has earned a Level 3 Defense Financial Management Certification (DFMC3).
