Command Sergeant Major Carlos O. Lopes

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Carlos O. Lopes served as the 655th Regional Support Group’s (RSG) CSM before this assignment.  CSM Lopes was also the 719th Movement Control Battalion’s CSM.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Sergeant Majors Academy.

Command Sergeant Major Lopes was born in St. Michael Island in the Azores, Portugal in 1965. He entered the Army in February 1984 and attended the Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Ft. Benning, GA. His assignments include the 3rd Bn, 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Benning, GA; 1st Brigade 8th Infantry Division in Mainz, Germany on active duty. In 1989 he transitioned into the Army Reserve and served with numerous units including the 454TH Replacement Detachment in Frankfurt, Germany; C Co 1st BN, 76th Division in Providence, RI; 2nd BN 98th Division (IET), in Providence, RI; 1/304th Regt., 98th Div., Londonderry, NH; 1/304th Regt., 95th Div., Londonderry, NH; 1/304th Regt. 98th Div., Devens, MA; 719th MCB, Brockton, MA, and the 655th RSG, Westover ARB, MA.

Command Sergeant Major Lopes has served in every enlisted leadership position from Team Leader to Brigade Command Sergeant Major. He has also served as a Training NCO, Instructor, Small Group Instructor, Drill Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant and First Sergeant.

His military education includes Primary Leadership Developmental Course, Basic and Advance Noncommissioned Officer Course (Honor Graduate in both courses), Total Army Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Course, Drill Sergeant Course, First Sergeant Course, Master Fitness Course, Small Arms Course, Jungle Operation Training Course, Airborne Course, and the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 8 oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 8 oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Medal,  the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with 8 oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with silver hour glass and “M” device, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon with a number 6. Command Sergeant Major Lopes has earned the Expert Infantry Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Drill Sergeant’s Badge, and the Driver’s Badge. He was award the Centurion version of the Order of St. Maurice and a lifetime member of the National Infantry Association.

Command Sergeant Major Lopes is a licensed electrician in the states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He is employed with an electrical Company in Massachusetts. He currently lives in Warwick, RI with his wife Karen and daughter, Alexandra (Lexi).
