He previously served as a licensed Funeral Director and embalmer. He has served his state and community in a number of civic organizations including the Health Officer for the town of Hardwick, a Justice of the Peace, Board of Civil Authority, Hardwick Kiwanis Club, American Legion former Commander, Sons of the American Legion 4th Degree member and former Treasurer, Knights of Columbus, and Board Member of AWARE (Aid to Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies).  As an active member of the Vermont Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Committee for 15 years,  he has been the Committee Ombudsman for five years..
