The U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Readiness Division hosted a Yellow Ribbon event Sept. 12-14 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown. Rev. Dr. Paul V. McCullough III, Army Reserve Ambassador for Pennsylvania, served as keynote speaker for the event. Yellow Ribbon events span the deployment cycle - pre-deployment prep, mid-tour virtual check-ins and post-deployment reintegration - to connect families with vital resources, all backed by the program’s emphasis on family well-being. U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Derrick Burrous, a 60-year-old culinary senior manager assigned to the 200th Military Police Company, reflects on his 38-year career in the military at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, Aug. 23, 2023. Burrous has served in all three components of the Army; active duty, National Guard, and the Reserve. Burrous is slated to retire soon, as he has reached the age limit for military service. Reflecting back on his career he says the key takeaways are selfless service, job competency, Soldier mentoring, and an appreciation of service and the benefits it has to offer.
