The U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Readiness Division hosted a Yellow Ribbon event Sept. 12-14 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown. Rev. Dr. Paul V. McCullough III, Army Reserve Ambassador for Pennsylvania, served as keynote speaker for the event. Yellow Ribbon events span the deployment cycle - pre-deployment prep, mid-tour virtual check-ins and post-deployment reintegration - to connect families with vital resources, all backed by the program’s emphasis on family well-being. The Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Reserve Command visited Soldiers participating in Operation Hood Strike at Fort Hood, Texas, in July. Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew Lombardo visited with engineers from the 401st and 341st Multi-Role Bridge Companies (MRBC) who were protected by the 422nd Military Police Company (CS) as they constructed fully enclosed Improved Ribbon Bridge’s (IRB) on Belton Lake. IRB's are floating, collapsible barges that can be used as a full span bridge or to ferry vehicles and equipment across a body of water. They also benefit units by providing them with an option to quickly close distances and transport critical capabilities, weapon systems, troops and supplies over water when permanent bridges are not available. Lombardo recognized several Soldiers, who were identified by their leadership, for hard work and dedication to the mission. The Soldiers pushed through extreme heat temperatures to ensure training was being conducted and to accomplish their mission. Operation Hood Strike is another example of the Army Reserve’s role in providing combat-ready units to FORSCOM and combatant commands across the full spectrum of conflict.
