A good cause on hallowed ground
Minutes after running the 9th Annual Wounded Warfighter and Lone Sailor 5K/10K race, U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy (right) of Florida’s 7th District thanks U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Myron J. Brown (left), a Tallahassee, Fla., native serving as the senior human resources sergeant, Headquarters & Headquarters Company, Mission Support Element, 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), and U.S. Army Sgt. Todd A. Fritz (center), a Pittsburgh, Pa., native serving as supply sergeant, HHC, MSE, 143d ESC, for supporting this charitable event. Conducted April 14, 2018, at Blue Jacket Park in Orlando, Fla., the race raised more than $54,000 for the Central Florida Navy League’s scholarship fund and the Camaraderie Foundation’s veterans’ counseling programs. Murphy, the first Vietnamese born female citizen to hold a seat in the U.S. Congress, was rescued by a U.S. Navy vessel off the waters of North Vietnam in 1979 after her family’s makeshift boat ran out of fuel during their desperate attempt to escape the country's communist regime.
