This rock was painted and dedicated at Cherokee, Iowa during a ceremony that was part of the Freedom Rock Tour, September 10, 2017. The rock honors the service members past and present from Cherokee County, Iowa, and was painted by Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II as a tribute. This rock is part of a collective effort to place a Freedom Rock in each of Iowa's 99 counties. During the ceremony, Cherokee County native, and Commanding General of the 88th Regional Support Command, Maj. Gen. Patrick Reinert spoke about his service and the honor he has of being a veteran from Cherokee County.
