PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - U.S. Army Reserve Maj. Gen. Jonathan Woodson, incoming commanding general of Army Reserve Medical Command, receives the command’s colors from Maj. Gen. Scottie Carpenter, deputy commanding general for U.S. Army Reserve Command, during a Change of Command ceremony held on Sunday, March 31, 2019 in Pinellas Park, Florida. The change of command ceremony symbolizes the continuation of leadership and unit identity despite the change of individual authority. It also represents the transfer of power from one leader to another; passing the ceremonial flag from outgoing to incoming commander is a physical representation of that transfer.
