EVANSTON, Ill. - A Soldier assigned to the 101st Airborne Division presents a folded American flag to Virginia Mampre, the daughter of Staff Sgt. Al Mampre, during graveside services at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie on Saturday, June 15, 2019. Mampre served as a medic with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during World War II. Mampre was one of the 'Band of Brothers' whose exploits were made into an HBO television series and also a book by historian Stephen Ambrose. Mampre died May 31, 2019, in Evanston. Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division; Brig. Gen. Kris A. Belanger, Commanding General, 85th U.S. Army Reserve Support Command and representatives from several police departments took part in the funeral service. Belanger became friends with Mampre after meeting him at a Memorial Day ceremony in 2018. (US. Army Reserve photo by Sgt. David Lietz)
