David “Big Dave” Gier, Senior Ride Captain Region 1, Illinois Patriot Guard, renders a salute to the American Flag, after presenting it to Sandra Salem, mother of Army Spc. Salem held the memorial on the 11th anniversary of her daughter’s death. Attendees included Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, former Illinois governor Patrick Quinn, Illinois Patriot Guard, and Army Reserve soldiers from the 85th Support Command and 85th Army Band. Spc. Salem, assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division, was killed in Remagen, Iraq on March 4, 2005.
