75th Innovation Command's Mountain View Group establishes presence during first-ever change of command ceremony

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - During Mountain View Group's first ever change-of-command ceremony conducted Aug. 4 at the Army Forces Reserve Center in Mountain View, California, U.S. Army Col. Shawn Herron, 1st Group commander, 75th Innovation Command, pins the Meritorious Service Medal to U.S. Army Lt. Col. Sung S. Hong, outgoing commander, Mountain View Battalion, 1st Group, 75th Innovation Command. Hong, who also serves as the deputy chief of patient care at Long Beach Veterans Healthcare System, served as Mountain View Group's first ever battalion commander from April 2020 to August 2022. Hong led the battalion from pandemic induced virtual battle assemblies to its first in-person Annual Training Event. Mountain View Battalion's mission focuses on innovation and technology scouting activities that support the Army modernization priorities and initiatives. Although the group comprises less than 30 Soldiers spread across five city teams from Denver to Silicon Valley, it has led more than 350 tech scouting discovery related events during fiscal year 2021.
