Chadwick Hampton, an orthopedic surgeon with the 212th Combat Support Hospital (CSH), assists Dr. Nguiabanda Leandre, a civilian surgeon with the Hopital D’Instrruction Des Armees in Libreville, Gabon, as he performs surgery during a medical readiness training exercise, known as MEDRETE 16-4. The exercise, held from May 22 to June 10, is a combined effort between the Gabonese government, U.S. Army Africa, the 212th CSH and the 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) from the U.S. Army Reserve. The exercise serves as an opportunity for U.S. and Gabonese forces to hone and strengthen their life saving skills as well as reinforce the partnership between both countries.
