Chicago minor-league hockey team honors U.S. Army Reserve Soldier

American Hockey League’s, Chicago Wolves, honored U.S. Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Richard A. Copulos, of the 85th U.S. Army Reserve Support Command, during a home game versus the Rockford Icehogs at Allstate Arena, November 27, 2021, in Rosemont, Ill.

Copulos, a veteran Soldier, with multiple deployments, received the honor during the National Anthem, recognizing his 15 years of service in the active Army and U.S. Army Reserve.

Copulos served as a unit supply specialist for the 541st Transportation Company, 106th Transportation Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division during a 2007-2008 deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

While deployed to Iraq in 2011, Copulos served as the supply sergeant for Alpha Co. 62nd ESB, 11th Signal Brigade in support of Operation New Dawn. Copulos received a standing ovation from thousands of spectators during the recognition there.

“My Hometown Hero recognition at the Wolves game was amazing. I felt like everyone showed their deepest appreciation for the military at the stadium,” said Copulos.

Copulos’ awards include three Army Commendation Medals and four Army Achievement Medals, among other awards throughout his years of service. Following the recognition, Copulos briefly met Skates, the mascot of the Chicago Wolves hockey team. The Chicago Wolves had a 3-2 victory over the Rockford IceHogs.
