The 2024 U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve Drill Sergeants of the Year were announced during a ceremony held at Fort Jackson, S.C. on Sept, 19, 2024.

After four days of physically and mentally grueling competition, Staff Sgt. Samuel Matlock, a Drill Sergeant representing the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., was awarded the honorary belt as the active-duty U.S. Army Drill Sergeant of the Year.

Sgt. First Class Jake Mrzena, a Drill Sergeant Leader with the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant Academy at Fort Jackson, S.C., earned the title of U.S. Army Reserve Drill Sergeant of the Year.

Families, friends and community supporters gathered to send-off appropriately 200 Army Reserve Soldiers assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 364th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) at a farewell ceremony held at Marysville Pilchuck High School March 30, 2024. Immediate Response 24 is the first time the U.S. Army has utilized this seaport for port operations making a new logistical pathway that enhances U.S. strategic flexibility and reach to the “High North” in order to defend its NATO Allies. Military exercises involving NATO Allie’s and partner nations in the European theater remain an integral part of demonstrating our capability, readiness, and interoperability.

The 7th Mission Support Command is the U.S. Army Reserve presence in Europe. Comprised of 26 units across Germany and Italy, the 7th MSC provides logistical and sustainment resources in support of U.S. Army Europe and Africa missions across the theater. Problem-solver thrives in Army Reserve, Army Civilian careers

Sgt. Henry Nicholas Gunther, last American casualty in WWI

World War I United States Army Soldier. He is believed to be the last man killed in World War I. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, into a family of German descent, he was employed at a local bank when America entered the war in April 1917. Five months later he was inducted into the United States Army and appointed a supply Sergeant in Company A, 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division of the American Expeditionary Forces. According to most sources Gunther died at 10:59 a.m., one minute before the Armistice, and General Pershing recorded him as the last American combat fatality in the conflict; it was subsequently established that the final French and UK Commonwealth deaths occurred minutes before Gunther's.
