Brigadier General Gerard Schwartz

Brigadier General Schwartz graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1986 and initially served as an Armored Platoon Leader in D Company, 4-37 Armor, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

He later served as Support Platoon Leader, for the Battalion, and as Company Executive Officer, A Company, 4-37 Armor. BG Schwartz joined the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in 1991, was assigned as the Squadron Logistics Officer and participated in Operation Desert Storm.

After returning to Amberg, Germany, he participated in the re-deployment of 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment to the United States.

He was reassigned as the Assistant Battalion Operations Officer for 1st Battalion, 37th Armor in Vilseck, Germany in 1992.

In 1993, he became Company Commander, B Company, 1-37 Armor. BG Schwartz returned to the U.S. in 1994 as the Operations Research and Systems Analysis Officer for First ROTC Region Headquarters, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

At the end of this assignment in 1997, he left active duty. Upon joining the U.S. Army Reserve in 2000, BG Schwartz joined the Third Corps Support Command Headquarters, Des Moines, Iowa.

He was assigned as the G3 Plans Officer and deployed with 3rd COSCOM in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Once deployed he was assigned as the COSCOM’s Liaison Officer to Fifth Corps and Coalition Joint Task Force Seven. Upon de-mobilization in 2004, BG Schwartz joined the 2nd Battalion 377th Regiment, Lincoln,Nebraska as the Battalion Executive Officer.

In 2006 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and selected to command the Battalion.

In 2009, BG Schwartz joined the 103d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) initially as the Chief,Distributions Integration Branch and then Chief, Distribution Management Center deploying to Balad,Iraq to support Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.

He directed supply distribution operations to support over one hundred twenty-two thousand service members and contractors.

In 2012, BG Schwartz was selected for promotion and assigned as Commander, 2nd Brigade, PacificDivision, 75th Training Command (MC).

The Brigade served as lead agent for three CG, USARC Combat Sustainment Training Program exercises at Fort Hunter-Liggett, California.

He was selected for a second brigade command and assumed command of the 89th Sustainment Brigade in Belton, Missouri, leading the unit through a Command Post-Functional and Warrior Exercise.

In April 2015 BG Schwartz was selected for promotion to Brigadier General and to command 451stSustainment Command (Expeditionary) in Wichita, Kansas.

His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Iraqi Campaign Medal (with one star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Kuwait and the Combat Action Badge.

BG Schwartz’s military education includes the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Operations Research and Systems Analysis Military Applications Course, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College. BG Schwartz is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt for Nebraska Machinery Company in Omaha,Nebraska.

He is married to his wife of 26 years, the former Laura Travis. They have two children,Travis and Matthew.
