Command Sergeant Major Carlos Lopes currently serves as the senior enlisted advisor for the 377th Theater Sustainment Command. He served most recently as the 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Command Sergeant Major.
He entered the Army in February 1984 and attended the Infantry One Station Unit Basic Training at Ft. Benning, Ga. His U.S. Army active duty assignments include the 3d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the 1st Brigade, 8th Infantry Division in Mainz, Germany. In 1989, he transitioned into the U.S. Army Reserve where he has served with numerous units including the 454th Replacement Detachment in Frankfurt, Germany; 76th Division in Providence, R.I.; 2nd Battalion, 98th Division (Initial Entry Training) also in Providence; 1/304th Regiment, 98th Division (IET) in Londonderry, N.H.; 1/304th Regiment, 95th Division (IET) also in Londonderry; 1/304th Regiment 98th Division (IET) in Devens, Massachusetts; 719th Movement Control Battalion in Brockton, Mass.; 655th Regional Support Group in Westover Air Force Reserve Base, Massachusetts; and he deployed as the 1st Theater Sustainment Command - Operational Command Post Command Sergeant Major to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, in support of Operations Freedom’s Sentinel, Inherent Resolve, Spartan Shield, and Task Force Sinai.
Command Sergeant Major Lopes military education includes the Primary Leadership Developmental Course, Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course (where he was recognized twice as the honor graduate), Total Army Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Course, Drill Sergeant Course, First Sergeant Course, Master Fitness Course, Small Arms Course, Jungle Operation Training Course, Airborne School, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education II, Nominative Leader Course, and Defense Support of Civil Authorities Phase 1 and 2 .
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with eight oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with nine oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with nine oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal with clasp, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with gold hour glass and “M” device and a numeral 2, the Overseas Service Ribbon with a numeral “2”, the Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon with a numeral “2”, and the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal with Campaign Star. Command Sergeant Major Lopes has earned the Expert Infantry Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Drill Sergeant’s Badge, and the Driver’s Badge. He was awarded the Centurion version of the Order of St. Maurice and is a lifetime member of the National Infantry Association.
Command Sergeant Major Lopes is currently a licensed electrician in the states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He is married and lives in Rhode Island with his wife and daughter.
