Col. Donna Hershey is the commander of the 307th Medical Brigade, located in Blacklick, Ohio, just outside of Columbus. The 307th is responsible for the command and control of field deployable medical units in Ohio and Michigan. Hershey began her military career in 1985 as a operating room nurse with the 99th Combat Support Hospital, Lancaster, Pa., and served in various capacities with the 99th until 1992.She has served as an operating room nurse with the 316th Station Hospital, the 322nd General Hospital, the 4205th U.S. Army Hospital, and the 339th Combat Support Hospital, all located in Harrisburg, Pa. In 1999, she became the commander, Detachment 1, 339th Combat Support Hospital. In 2002, Hershey deployed with the 339th as the chief nurse of the 339th's "Task Force 44," with service at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan. Upon her return, she became the chief nurse for the 339th Combat Support Hospital in Coraopolis, Pa., where she also served briefly as the interim commander in 2005. In 2006, Hershey became the chief nurse for the 338th Medical Brigade in Chester, Pa. In 2007, she assumed command of the 2290th U.S. Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. Following her command, Hershey transferred to the 807th MDSC, where she became the chief evaluator before assuming command of the 307th in 2010. Hershey holds a Bachelors of Nursing from Millersville University, Lancaster, Pa., a Masters of Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and a Masters of Strategic Studies from the Army War College in Carlisle, Pa. She is a graduate of the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Officer Basic and Advanced courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College. Hershey has recieved the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (with a silver oak leaf cluster and two bronze oak leaf clusters), and the Army Achievement Medal. In her civilian capacity, Hershey is the Director of Personal Care and Outpatient Services at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, Pa. She manages a staff of over 100 health care providers in 14 departments, including pharmacy, radiology, laboratory, primary care, and outpatient services.
