Brigadier General LeAnne Pittman Burch

Brigadier General LeAnne Pittman Burch was born in Stuttgart, Arkansas and graduated from DeWitt High School and Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982.

She attended law school at the University of Arkansas Little Rock School of Law before earning a Juris Doctorate in 1985 from Memphis State University in Tennessee. She holds a Master of Laws degree from The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College.

Brigadier General Burch was directly commissioned into the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps in 1986. Brigadier General Burch’s active duty assignments began in Baumholder, Germany with the 8th Infantry Division (Mechanized), where she served as a Legal Assistance and Claims Attorney and 2d Brigade Trial Counsel. She served two years with the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, III Corps and Fort Hood, in Fort Hood, Texas, before her assignment with the Womack Army Medical Center and then the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, XVIII Airborne Corps, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Brigadier General Burch was deployed to Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina with Operation Joint Guard before leaving active duty in 1998, when she began her Army Reserve career. From 1998-2005, Brigadier General Burch served with the 2d Legal Support Organization (LSO), first on the North Little Rock, Arkansas team and then as Deputy Commander in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was mobilized with the unit to III Corps and Fort Hood in 2004-2005, before her assignment as Staff Judge Advocate, 4013th Garrison Support Unit in Bossier City, Louisiana. In 2008, she deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan with the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, as the Senior Mentor for the legal departments of the Afghan National Army and the Afghanistan Ministry of Defense, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. She was assigned as Commander, 22d LSO, Grand Prairie, Texas, from October 2009-April 2012, when she began an assignment as the U.S. Army Legal Command Deputy Commander – West. On July 16, 2012, following her selection for promotion, she was assigned as the Chief Judge, Army Court of Criminal Appeals, U.S. Army Legal Services Agency (Individual Mobilization Augmentee) in Fort Belvoir.

On 14 May 2013, Brigadier General Burch took command of the United States Army Reserve Legal Command, Gaithersburg, Maryland.

 Brigadier General Burch completed the Judge Advocate Officer Basic and Graduate Courses, the Army Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College. Her awards include the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 oak leaf clusters). In her civilian capacity, she is in private practice in Arkansas. Brigadier General Burch is married to Robert (Bobby) Burch, Jr., and they reside in Monticello, Arkansas. They have two children, Robert (Trey) Burch, III, and Katelyn Skye Burch.
