Col. Brent W. Allen

Chief of Staff, 84th Training Command

COL Brent Allen has over 26 years of military service (Active Duty and Army Reserve). He graduated the University of Kentucky as a Distinguished Military Graduate and was commissioned in August 1997 into the Military Intelligence Corps. Through his career, he served in a diverse range of leadership roles ranging from Surveillance Platoon Leader, Battalion and Brigade Intelligence Officer, Cavalry Troop Commander, Military Intelligence Detachment Commander, Military Intelligence Battalion Commander (CSL Select), Military Intelligence Group Commander (CSL Select), Division G2, J2 of Kosovo Force (NATO), and G-3/5/7 of the 91st Training Division.


After commissioning, COL Allen served with the 101st Airborne Division as an Assistant S-2 for 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade (Strike) beginning in April 1998. Following this assignment, he served as Surveillance Platoon Leader in C/311th MI Battalion as part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Rakkasans) and later as S2 of the 101st Corps Support Group. He transitioned to the Army Reserve in NOV 2000 and joined the 2/397th Cavalry Regiment in Lexington, KY, serving as Troop Executive Officer, and later Commander of A/2-397th Cavalry. From 2004 to 2006, COL Allen served as Commander of I/6-15 Cavalry and later K/6-15 Cavalry in Fort Knox’s 1st Armored Training Brigade. Following demobilization, COL Allen served as Operations Officer of 2-397 Cavalry until 2008 until mobilized to Fort Benning, GA to serve as a Platoon Mentor in 1st Battalion, 11th Infantry in the Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC II). Following demobilization, transitioned from Operations Officer of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 95th Division to Strategic Intelligence Analyst in Detachment 3, 2100th Military Intelligence Group at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH in 2009, supporting the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) Aviation Branch. In 2011, COL Allen was mobilized through USSOCOM to Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan to lead Regional Operations Coordination Group – North, comprised of Afghan Police, Army, and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel. Upon returning to 2100th Military Intelligence Group (MIG), COL Allen served as a production manager and then Detachment Commander of Detachment 2, 2100th MIG. He assumed command of the 323rd Military Intelligence Battalion (Theater Support) in Fort Meade, MD and where he served until July 2017 before transitioning back to serve as DCO of the 2100th MIG before becoming G2 of the 108th Training Command in Charlotte, NC. CSL selected COL Allen as Commander, 2500th MI Group in Jacksonville, FL, and COL Allen led the unit through COVID and to Korea in support of Special Operations Command, Korea during Combined Command Post Training (CCPT) while also serving as the MI Assessment Team Lead of the CFC-Korea CJ2, a four star command during CCPT 2019 and 2021. Following Command, COL Allen deployed to Southeastern Europe, serving as the J2, Chief of Intelligence of Kosovo Force (NATO) during a time of Russian and Serbian influenced hybrid war. Returning from Kosovo, COL Allen assumed responsibilities as the 91st Training Division G-and is currently serving as the Chief of Staff of the 84th Training Command.


COL Allen graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1997 with a B.A. in Political Science. He has additional degrees from the University of Kentucky graduate school (M.A., Education), Asbury University (Ed.S., Educational Leadership), the U.S. Army War College (Master of Strategic Studies), and a Ph.D. in Philosophy (Leadership) from the University of the Cumberlands. He has graduated from the Army Operations Course, Command and General Staff College (ILE), Sniper Employment Leader Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, the Military Intelligence Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, and other military training programs.


COL Allen’s military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Support Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and other awards.


In his civilian role, COL Allen is the Director of Pupil Personnel for Scott County School District, overseeing school supports to at risk students, court representation, network leadership and coaching of Principals, Leader Development, and database management. He is married to Julie, and they have 4 x children, Maura (18), Tristan (16), Bennett (13), and Judah (10).
