Brig. Gen. Stephen P. Case assumed duty as the Deputy Commanding General-Readiness of the 88th Readiness Division, Fort Snelling, Minn., and Fort McCoy, Wis., on Feb. 6, 2023.
He commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Armor Branch following graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management. Spending the first third of his career on Active Duty, he served in various company grade assignments at Fort Drum, N.Y., Fort Benning, Ga., and in the Republic of Korea.
He led Anti-tank and Scout Platoons and served as a Company Executive Officer in 3-17 Cavalry, 10th Mountain Division. After volunteering for a tour in Korea, he served as an Armor Battalion Logistics Officer and Heavy Mortar Platoon Leader in 2-72 Armor Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. Returning Stateside, he attended the Infantry Officer Advanced Course and the Combined Arms Services Staff School before taking assignment as the Operations Officer for 1-29 Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning.
Transferring to the Alabama National Guard, Brig. Gen. Case became the Assistant Operations Officer to 20th Special Forces Group prior to his activation and deployment to the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan. In 2004, Brig. Gen. Case entered the Army Reserve to help train Joint Special Operations integration to mobilizing conventional Reserve and National Guard units. In 2006, he was reassigned to Special Operations Command to establish a special intelligence program. Later, he worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a military engineering specialist, strategic planner, and senior operations officer. In 2013, he became the Deputy Brigade Commander for the Army Materiel Command-Army Reserve Element followed by his selection for Battalion Command of 4-323 Infantry Regiment. Brigadier General Case then served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Reserve Element supporting the Joint Munitions Command.
After selection for Brigade Command, he facilitated multinational interoperability in all war fighting functions for United States Army Europe as the Commander of the 209th Digital Liaison Detachment. He then served as the Chief of Staff of the 335th Signal Command (Theater), overseeing the readiness and deployment of Army Reserve signal, cyber, and information operations capabilities. Most recently, he was promoted to Brigadier General and served as the Deputy Commanding General for the Combined Joint Task Force- Horn of Africa in Djibouti.
Brig. Gen. Case has received several service and joint awards and decorations. His military schooling includes Airborne, Air Assault, Sapper Leader, Scout Leader, Mortar Leader, and Advanced Joint Professional Military Education among other schools. He also holds a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership from Webster University and is a Fellow from the Defense Acquisition University. He also attended Senior Leader Forum after graduating from Senior Service College.
