Mr. James G. Murphy is currently serving as the Command Executive Officer (CXO) for the 416th Theater Engineer Command (TEC), headquartered in Darien, Illinois.
Mr. Murphy is responsible to the Commanding General for the day to day management, supervision and oversight of the command. The 416th TEC is comprised of 150 unit formations organized under four subordinate brigades and five direct reporting units with over 10,000 Soldiers and 350 Civilians located in 26 states. The 416th TEC directly supports EUCOM, AFRICOM and CENTCOM (regionally aligned GCCs) and their ASCC’s with an operating budget of over $60 million dollars.
Mr. Murphy previously served as the Resource Management Officer of the 416th TEC and the Senior Budget Analyst of the 86th ARCOM located in Forest Park, Illinois prior to being selected as the 416th TEC Command Executive officer in 1997.
As a member of the Army Reserves, Mr. Murphy was commissioned in June of 1980 as a Second Lieutenant in the Finance Corps. He served in numerous Resource Management, Human Resource and Logistical positions of increasing responsibility culminating at the rank of Colonel serving as the 416th TEC Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8. Mr. Murphy retired with over 36 years of Commissioned service in July of 2016. Mr. Murphy deployed with the 416th TEC in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Mr. Murphy was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from DePaul University, a Master’s of Science in Management Information Systems from DePaul University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He currently resides with his wife Shana and son Shaun in Homer Glen, Illinois.
