CSM Carlton Jones is currently assigned as the Command Sergeant Major for the 352d Civil Affairs Command (CACOM), Fort Meade Maryland. The 352d CACOM consists of two subordinate Brigades. The 360th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne) headquartered at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and the 354th Civil Affairs Brigade, headquartered in White Plains, Maryland. The CACOM maintains an enduring presence of approximately 120 Soldiers deployed in the AFRICOM and CENTCOM areas of operation.
CSM Jones enlisted into United States Army Reserve as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic and was assigned to the 818th Maintenance Company, Fort Meade, MD in 1985. He later attended airborne school and reclassified as an Infantryman. After a break in service, CSM Jones returned to enlisted service in August 2001 and was mobilized in support of Operation Noble Eagle with C 1/115th Infantry (L) and again in 2003 with Detachment I, HHC 1/115th Infantry (L). CSM Jones joined Civil Affairs in 2004 and deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan with the 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (A) as a Civil Affairs Team Sergeant. He later deployed with Bravo Company 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (A) to Adhamiya, Baghdad, Iraq. CSM Jones served as the First Sergeant of Alpha and Delta Company, 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (A) and then HHC, 352d Civil Affairs Command. CSM Jones was promoted to SGM in May 2016 and served as the Operations Sergeant Major for the 354th Civil Affairs Brigade. CSM Jones has also served as the CSM of 10th Bn 80th Rgt (OES), the 437th Civil Affairs Battalion, the 151st Theater Information Operations Group (TIOG) and the 360th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne).
CSM Jones’ military education includes: US Army Airborne School, Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic AIT, Infantry Officers Basic Course, Civil Affairs Transition Course, Combat Lifesaver Course (Tactical Combat Casualty Care), IED T3 Course, Sling Load Inspectors Course, Joint Humanitarian Operations Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 63), Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Education Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, the DoD Inspectors General Course, Army Information Operations Planners Course, OPSEC Level II and the Joint Information Operations Orientation Course. In his civilian studies he holds a bachelor’s degree from Grantham University with a major in criminal justice and a minor in homeland security studies. He is currently working towards his master’s degree in foreign policy.
His decorations include the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
In his civilian capacity, CSM Jones retired from the Prince George’s County (MD) Police Department after over 23 years of service. While employed by the Prince George’s County (MD) Police Department his assignments included Patrol Officer, Community Services Officer, undercover narcotics detective, general detective, and as a Detective Sergeant working in the Robbery, Homeland Security and Internal Affairs Units. He is married to the former Maureen Green of Washington, D.C., together they have five children and six grandchildren.
