Command Sergeant Major Carlton B. Jones is currently assigned as senior enlisted advisor for the 151 Theater Information Operations Group, Fort Totten, N.Y.
Command Sergeant Major Jones enlisted into U.S. Army Reserve and attended Basic Combat Training at Ft. Dix, N.J. in June, 1985. After graduating from Advanced Individual Training (AIT) as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic, he was assigned to the 818th Maintenance Company, Ft. Meade, M.D. After a break in service, Command Sergeant Major Jones returned to enlisted service in August 2001, and was mobilized in support of Operation Noble Eagle in October 2001 with C 1/115th Infantry (L) and again in April 2003 with Detachment I, HHC, 1/115th Infantry (L). Command Sergeant Major Jones joined the Civil Affairs branch in June 2004, and deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan with the 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne) as a Civil Affairs Team Sergeant. In 2007 Command Sergeant Major Jones deployed with Bravo Company, 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne) to Adhamiyah, Baghdad, Iraq. Command Sergeant Major Jones was promoted to Master Sergeant in 2012 and served as the First Sergeant of Alpha Company, followed by Delta Company, 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne). In 2014, Command Sergeant Major Jones was selected to be the First Sergeant, HHC, 352nd Civil Affairs Command. Command Sergeant Major Jones was promoted to Sergeant Major in May 2016 and was assigned as the Operations Sergeant Major for the 354th Civil Affairs Brigade, and in March 2017 was assigned as the Command Sergeant Major, 10th Battalion, 80th Regiment (OES).
Command Sergeant Major Jones served in a variety of assignments before his current assignment as the senior enlisted advisor for the 151st Theater Information Operations Group, including Command Sergeant Major, 437th Civil Affairs Battalion, Command Sergeant Major, 10th Battalion, 80th Regiment (OES), Operations Sergeant Major 354th Civil Affairs Brigade, First Sergeant, HHC, 352nd Civil Affairs Command, and First Sergeant, D Company, 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne).
Command Sergeant Major Jones’ military education includes the US Army Airborne School, Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic AIT, Infantry Officers Basic Course, Civil Affairs Transition Course, the Combat Lifesaver Course (Tactical Combat Casualty Care), IED T3 Course, Sling Load Inspectors Course, Joint Humanitarian Operations (JHOC) Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 63), Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Education Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, the Joint Inspectors General Course, and the DOD Inspectors General Course. In his civilian studies, Command Sergeant Major Jones holds a bachelor’s degree from Grantham University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Homeland Security Studies.
Command Sergeant Major Jones’ awards include the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster.
In his civilian capacity, Command Sergeant Major Jones retired from the Prince George’s County (MD) Police Department in December 2017 after over 23 years of service. While employed by the Prince George’s County (MD) Police Department his assignments included Patrol Officer, Community Services Officer, undercover narcotics detective, general detective, and as a Detective Sergeant working in the Robbery, Homeland Security and Internal Affairs Units. He is married to the former Maureen Green of Washington, D.C., together they have five children and six grandchildren.
