Col. D. Scotty Lene

Commander, 7th Psychological Operations Group

COL D. Scotty Lene is a native of Labelle, Texas and graduated Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas with a Bachelor’s of General Studies Degree in 1996. He commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Defense Artillery (SHORAD) where his assignments included: platoon leader, battery executive officer and battery commander in 2d Infantry Division (Korea), the 82d Airborne Division and the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (OPFOR). 

After battery command, COL Lene was accepted into FA37 (PSYOP) was an assistant operations officer/PSYOP instructor and TPD Commander ISO Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 1st Marine Division in Fallujah, Iraq.

Upon re-deploying from Iraq, COL Lene was selected to serve as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General,

USACAPOC(A) where he applied for and was accepted into the Active Guard Reserve Program (USAR) and branched Psychological Operations.

COL Lene’s positions in PSYOP include:  Senior PSYOP OC/T – JRTC; 14th Battalion S3; 14th Battalion Acting Commander; 7th PSYOP Group S3; G37, USACAPOC(A); and 13th PSYOP Battalion Commander.

After Battalion Command, COL Lene served with 5th Army (Army North) as the Defense Support to Civil Authorities Exercises Branch Chief and the Army Reserve Engagement Cell Director.

COL Lene’s last duty assignment was as the G-3/5/7 for the 88th Readiness Division where he deployed ISO Operation Allies Refuge/Welcome as the G-3/5/7, Chief of Staff and then the Task Force Commander. 

COL Lene has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with silver oak leaf cluster, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, and numerous campaign and service medals and awards. 

He has earned the Combat action Badge and the Master Parachutist Badge. 

COL Lene’s civilian and military education include:  Bachelor’s and Masters Degree; CGSC, SSDCO, the Joint PSYOP Course, The NATO PSYOPS Course, The Advanced Influence Course and the DSCA Course. 

COL Lene is married to Mrs Wendy Lene of Forest Lake, MN and they have 6 sons, Josh (32), Branden (31), Lane, (24), Dolen (23), David (21) and Adam (18).
