Command Sergeant Major Turner entered military service from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 9, 1989 and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC. She has completed Advanced Initial Training as an Aviation Operations Specialist (15P) at Fort Rucker, Alabama and Human Resource Specialist (42A) at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
On January 25, 2021, Command Sergeant Major Sherri L. Turner was selected as the Command Sergeant Major of the 100th Training Division (Leader Development), 80th Training Command (Total Army School System).
Prior to this assignment, she served in a variety of professionally rewarding and developmental positions across the Army in positions of leadership throughout her career. Her unit assignments include 5th Battalion, 100th Regiment, 94th Division, HHB, 479th Field Artillery Brigade, HQ STARC Pennsylvania, Company G, 104th Aviation, HHC, 2nd Battalion 238th Aviation, 406th Combat Support Battalion, 7th Battalion (PS), 4th Brigade (CSS), HHC, 94th Armored Brigade, 5th Battalion (PS), 4th Brigade (CSS), and 97th Training Brigade (CGSOC).
CSM Turner is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 194th Armored Brigade. Her awards and decorations include Basic Aviation Badge, Army Basic Instructor Badge, Meritorious Service Medal 2nd award, Army Commendation Medal 3rd award, Army Achievement Medal 2nd award, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, 2nd award, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star Device, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with silver hour glass, “M” Device, NCO Professional Development with numeral 5, and Army Service Ribbon.
Her professional education includes completion in training and studies in Faculty Development Course, Total Army Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Training Course, Unit Prevention Leaders Course, BDE Pre-Command Course, Sergeants Major Academy, The Senior Leaders Joint Professional Military Education Course, Structured Development Course VI, First Sergeants Course, Advance Noncommissioned Officer’s Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer’s Course and Primary Leadership Development Course.
She holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Health Care Management and a national certification in Human Resources.
In her civilian capacity, CSM Turner is the President/CEO of a Michigan-based non-profit organization. CSM Turner and her husband have three wonderful children. They reside in Whitmore Lake, Michigan.
