Brig. Gen. Daniel H. Hershkowitz

Deputy Commanding General, 377th Theater Sustainment Command

Brigadier General Daniel H. Hershkowitz serves as the deputy commanding general of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command based out of Belle Chasse, Louisiana. With duty in San Antonio, Texas, Brig. Gen. Hershkowitz overseas sustainment operations in ongoing missions throughout the United States in support of U.S. Army North.

He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army Reserve through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps in 1992 and attended the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course at Fort Lee, Virginia.  Initially assigned to the 98th Training Division, Rochester, New York, he served as an executive officer for a drill sergeant company. Brig. Gen. Hershkowitz then served in the 277th Quartermaster Company, Niagara Falls, New York, as a petroleum platoon leader before assuming command of the company in 1997. From there, he was assigned as a petroleum management officer for the 420th Quartermaster Battalion, Liverpool, New York. In 1999, he was selected to be the company commander of the 969th Maintenance Company, Horseheads, New York.

In 2003, Brig. Gen. Hershkowitz mobilized and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 413th Quartermaster Battalion, Schenectady, New York. Upon his return, he was assigned to several staff positions including logistics officer at the battalion and division levels. In 2007, he volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan as a logistics officer with a Provincial Reconstruction Team located in Gardez, Afghanistan. He served on active duty from 2010-2013 with the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, working in operations as a transportation logistics officer and at the brigade level as a training and readiness officer. From 2013-2015, Brig. Gen. Hershkowitz was the commander for the 1-322nd Logistics Support Battalion under First Army at Fort AP Hill, Virginia. From there, he served on staff at the Army Reserve Sustainment Command, Rock Island, Illinois, and as the executive officer for the 206th Regional Support Group, Springfield, Illinois. He served on active duty from November 2016 through August 2017 as a joint mobility plans officer within Strategy, Capabilities, Policy and Logistics (J5/J4) directorate at U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. In March of 2018, Brig. Gen. Hershkowitz assumed command of the 90th Sustainment Brigade out of North Little Rock, Arkansas where he served until he was selected to be the Chief of Staff, 377th Theater Sustainment Command, New Orleans, Louisiana in January 2020. On 27 October 2020, Brig. Gen. Hershkowitz assumed command of the 103d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in Des Moines, Iowa.

His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York, College at Brockport. He earned a Masters in Strategic Studies at the United States Army War College in 2016. 

Brig. Gen. Hershkowitz’s significant awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), and the Combat Action Badge. 

As a civilian, he works for the Department of the Army as the Director of Logistics Division at Headquarters, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. A native of Long Island, New York, Brig. Gen. Hershkowitz is married to his wife, Julia.  They have two rescue dogs and live near Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
