Maj. Gen. Miguel A. Castellanos

Commanding General, 84th Training Command

Major General Miguel A. Castellanos currently serves as Commanding General of the 84th Training Command at Ft. Knox, KY. A native of Fresno, California, he graduated from California State University Fresno and received a Regular Army Commission as an Infantry Officer in 1987.

While serving on Active Duty he deployed in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD/STORM, Operation RESTORE HOPE / UNOSOM II in Somalia. In the U.S. Army Reserve and Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) Program, he became a Civil Affairs Officer in 1997,  performed numerous staff assignments and commanded at the Company, Battalion, Brigade as well as a PSYOP Group. He supported Operation UNIFIED ASSISTANCE in 2004 and deployed to Senegal in support of Operation UNITED  ASSISTANCE in 2014.

Most recently, MG Castellanos served as the Deputy Director for Operations at USAFRICOM in Stuttgart Germany.  Prior to, he served as the Deputy Commanding General for Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) serving in Mogadishu, Somalia. As the senior U.S. military officer, MG Castellanos advised on all DOD efforts related to defeating al-Shabaab and training the Somali National Army.  He lead the international community to coordinate and unify effort and action with key leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia, African Union, United Nations, troop contributing countries and with senior political and military leaders from partner nations.

MG Castellanos holds a Bachelor's degree from California State University Fresno, and his military education includes the Command General Staff College and the Army War College where he earned a Master's degree.
