Brigadier General Stephen T. Sauter is currently assigned as a Deputy Commanding General of the 807th Medical Command.
A native of Abington Township, PA, BG Sauter received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Colorado State University and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. BG Sauter is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology. In his civilian capacity, BG Sauter serves as the Past President of Shore Radiology, PA in Easton, Maryland. BG Sauter’s military education includes the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Officer Basic Course, the AMEDD Captain’s Career Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Medical Management of Chemical and Biological Casualties Course, and the United States Army War College.
BG Sauter commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps through the Colorado State University Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1987. Over the course of his 32-year career, BG Sauter has served in leadership positions from Company through Division Forward Operational Command Post level command which include: Company Commander, Charlie Company 169th Support Battalion (Forward) from 1993 to1994; Hospital Commander, 405th Combat Support Hospital from 2012 to 2013; Brigade Commander, 338th Medical Brigade from 2013 to 2015; and Commander 3d Medical CommandOperational Command Post (Forward) 2015 to 2016. BG Sauter has also served as Deputy Commanding General (Support) of the 3d Medical Command (Deployment Support) 2016 to 2019. BG Sauter also served in a variety of staff positions which include: Hospital Executive Officer, Chief of Operations, Battalion Surgeon, 35th Infantry Division (Mechanized) Artillery Brigade Surgeon, and 3d Corps Support Command Surgeon. Additionally, BG Sauter served in support of Active Army operations from 2007 to 2009 while performing simultaneous duties as the Chief of Radiology at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and as the European Regional Medical Command Radiology Consultant. BG Sauter’s operational deployments include Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm (1991), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2005) and Operation Enduring Freedom (2003 and 2016).
BG Sauter’s awards and decorations include the Valorous Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster (2), the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters (6), the Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Medical Badge and the Expert Field Medical Badge. BG Sauter is also a proud member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara for his service within the Field Artillery community as well as a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit.
BG Sauter is married to Melanie Sauter and has 4 daughters. He resides with his family on Shore of Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.
