Command Sergeant Major Shane Larson enlisted in the United States Army and attended Military Police training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Upon completion of 31B training, CSM Larson was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

CSM Larson has served in a wide variety of key leadership positions and developmental assignments throughout his career. He has deployed multiple times for a cumulative 51 months boots-on-ground OCONUS. CSM Larson’s combat deployments include multiple tours to Iraq and to Afghanistan. CSM Larson also deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian. He was assigned as the Commandant of the Fort McCoy NCO Academy in August 2019.

CSM Larson’s military training includes: Military Police Training, Basic Airborne Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Air Assault Course, Protective Service Detail Course, Basic Leaders Course, Static Line Jumpmaster Course, Air Movement Operations Course, Airlift Load Planners Course, Modern Army Combatives (Level I and II), Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Antiterrorism Officer Course, Army Reserve Career Counselor Course (ARCC), Reserve Component Career Counselor Course (RCCC), Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeant Course, Master Resilience Training, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course (I and II), the Sergeants Major Course (Class 68), the Brigade Pre-Command/CSM Course, the Commandant Pre-Command Course, and the Nominative Leader Course.

CSM Larson’s awards and decorations include the following: Bronze Star Medal (3rd award), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device (4th award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Career Counselor Badge, Drivers Badge, German Parachutist Badge, and the Chilean Parachutist Badge.

CSM Larson is a recipient of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Award. CSM Larson graduated with honors (Sigma Beta Delta) from Excelsior College with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Business & Management and a Master of Science degree in Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management. CSM Larson also completed the U.S. Army Strategic Education Nominative Leader Program from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

CSM Larson and his wife have been married for 16 years and have two amazing daughters.
